Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) Ornament

$25.00

I was lucky enough to not know about Pulmonary Fibrosis growing up. The first time I knowingly met someone with PF was in 2018 while I was working as a glassblowing instructor. I noticed a couple watching my colleague and I assisting other guests in making their own glass souvenirs. The man cautiously asked us (after much encouragement from his wife) if he could sign up to try glassblowing. He said he had PF and his lungs were getting weak and was very concerned he wouldn't be able to inflate the glass. Pulmonary Fibrosis is a progressive, incurable scarring of the lungs that makes it increasingly difficult to breathe. I told him if he could hold a conversation with me he could generate enough pressure to blow glass. He chose to make himself a drinking tumbler in the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation’s (PFF's) colors. To create something that can last forever using his breath left a profound impact on him and he, in turn, on me.

I can't recall their names but this couple's enthusiasm and positivity was so inspiring. After working with them I researched Pulmonary Fibrosis, and only then did I understand the magnitude of what they were up against and truly how strong they were. I've helped over a thousand people make their own glass souvenirs but this couple stood out in my memory. Assisting people with lung ailments blow glass is very emotional and very rewarding, once I became aware of PF I became aware that I had worked with other people with it. While I can’t recall their names I think of this couple often and their smiles and positivity and wonder how they are doing. I wanted to do something to pay them respect. I designed this ornament in PFF's colors to raise money for this organization that clearly had a very positive impact on their lives. PF is a disease that the more you talk about, the more you realize you already know people impacted by it and I'm proud to support the work the foundation is doing to help. Since I started selling this ornament in 2019, over $500 has been donated to PFF.

  • $10 from each ornament will be donated to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF)
